LAKE WABAUNSEE NEWS
SUMMER 2008
Summertime, and the livin’ is easy at Lake Wabaunsee! (except for those airborne tube rides and learning to wake board!) Where the song birds answer others, the bullfrogs compete, locusts sing, coyotes howl and the winds don’t blow above 30 mph. Leisurely golf cart rides and wine cruises at sunset are meet and greet times. Where weekend guests arrive with a can of gas, take the hosts out to eat and mow the grass. Where we keep our evening dockside conversations low (because we can so clearly hear other’s conversations) and the fireworks end at 11 pm (except on the 4th of July weekend). Ahh... Life is good. We are blessed. Enjoy.

The East Bridge
Many of you are aware that the east bridge needs repair. In spite of our neighborhood’s generous tax contributions and the county bridge supervisor’s assurances for the past decade that the east bridge’s problems were budgeted for repair in the 5 year plan, Les Schrader is now recommending building a new bridge. They are actually proposing a new bridge be built east of the existing bridge, protecting it from the rush of water. The historic bridge will be a walking and fishing bridge. It seems that even if the bridge was repaired to its best form, it still wouldn’t meet KDOT standards. Maybe that will make it even more special and keep the vehicles and pedestrians apart but the bridge will still be in need of repair. You may have an opinion that your County Commissioners need to know about. You can contact our Commissioner, Rodney Allen at 785-256-6354 (his parents own a North Shore Barracks). The other two commissioners are Ervan Stuewe, the Signal-Enterprise editor/owner, 785-765-2209 and Maruice Gleason, 785-256-4113.
Independence Day Events
Lake Wabaunsee’s 4th of July blowout will probably begin and end on your own dock but I hope you will participate in some community events too. Kids events are planned at the Bait shop starting with a sand castle contest at 2:00 pm and then other games as well. There will possibly be a ski show and the famous boat parade will begin at 6pm. Dress your boat or pontoon in it’s finest stars & stripes (or whatever you have in mind) and leave for the bait shop early enough to line up at 6pm so that the parade will be done before the fireworks begin! The Volunteer Firemen will be in charge of the fireworks which will be shot off the dam at dark:30 or so... We sure appreciate their talents in timing the igniters to create the special effects. It’s always so inspirational to see from the boat on the water. It’s up to us to pay for the fireworks. Let’s be generous as the Firemen come around in the afternoon asking for donations. Maybe you can send them off with some cash, a company check, a handshake and perhaps a cold drink or two... Freedom isn’t free!! And -- stay safe out there!
Garden Parties
We do enjoy our garden parties here at the lake. The purpose of our get togethers (do we need a purpose?) is to get to know each other, see the lake from another’s perspective and get new lakefront landscaping/patio ideas. Everyone is invited (well, the women). This Saturday (June 21) we’ll get together at my house (76 Lake View at 10 am) The 28th we’ll meet at Sue’s at 331 E Flint Hills, July 12th at Henri’s at 21 Rocky Ledge, July 26th is open, Aug 9th at Cheryl’s at 383 Lake Shore, Aug 23 is open and Sept 6th, Connie’s at 119 Lake View. Hope to see you there!
Bass Tournament
There will be a bass tournament Saturday June 21st! Sign up at the bait shop to participate in the 7am tourney. The cost is $30 for each team. $5 will be awarded for the biggest bass and the winners will split the pot.

- § 94 Lake View Cir $204,900
I am now representing 94 Lake View Circle. It has been for sale before, but have you seen it? You’ll know it by the rocks in the yard. (The rocks are for sale to be replaced by sod if you want some rocks…) The price now represents the tax appraised value (some added to cover a very nice dock in the deep water). It is on 3 interior lots with an unused easement on the side. (130’ x 100’ + the 20’ easement) The home is 12 years old and has 2546 sq ft. It has many special features: arched door ways, marble tiled gas fireplace, 13’6” x 18’9” eat in kitchen, home office, 300 sq ft master bedroom with a 100 sq ft bath and 140 sq ft California closet with a washer dryer space. The guest room is 12’ x 14.5’ and the 30 x 15’ lower level could be the 3rd bedroom or a theater room! There is a single attached garage and a double detached garage also. There is 355 sq ft of wrap around decks. If you are willing to walk a bit to the water you can enjoy this executive home and a west side dock on deep water for a great value. The home is not lakefront and is a bit dated in the colors. What do you think??
